Dental bonding is a restorative service in which a tooth-colored resin is bonded to a tooth and cured with an ultraviolet light. Bonding is faster and less expensive than other options like veneers or crowns, making it a great option to make small, cosmetic improvements to your smile.
Unlike veneers and crowns, bonding can be done within one office visit since nothing custom needs to be created by a dental laboratory. This procedure typically requires removing less of the tooth enamel compared to veneers and crowns. However, since bonding doesn’t last as long as other forms of restoration and is less resistant to stains, it’s used more often than not for minor cosmetic touch ups rather than major restorations that other services may be more suitable for your smile.
How it’s done
The bonding procedure requires between 30 to 60 minutes to complete for each tooth. First, our dentist will determine what color shade your teeth are so he can select a resin that will blend it naturally. After this is completed, he will then prepare your tooth so the bonding material will adhere easier. This involves roughing the surface of the affected tooth and applying a liquid conditioner. Once this has been completed, we’ll apply the resin to the tooth and cure it in place using the ultraviolet light. After all is said and done, we’ll apply the finishing touches by shaping and polishing the resin for a proper fit.
